Dominic Solanke was unable to make the grade at Chelsea with the Blues allowing him to leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2016/17 season.
Liverpool were quick to act and have signed Solanke to a long-term contract but as per FA rules, Chelsea are entitled to a compensation fee as part of the transfer.
The London Evening Standard claim that the Blues are seeking a fee in excess of £10m from Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had offered £3m to Chelsea which was quickly dismissed and if the clubs cannot agree on compensation then the matter will go to an independent tribunal who will decide the fee.
It’s believed that Chelsea were seeking just £8m but they have since upped their demands following Solanke’s exploits at the U20 World Cup.
The striker netted four goals and was given the Golden Ball award for the best player at the tournament as he helped England secure a historic title.
Tipped for a big future in the game, Solanke’s potential is taken into account when deciding the fee.
