Kenedy looks set to make return to Watford next season

According to reports in Portugal, as cited by the Hertfordshire Mercury, Brazilian Kenedy could be on his way back to Vicarage Road with Watford next season, after playing a bit part role in Chelsea’s charge to the title following his return to West London in January – when he was recalled due to a lack of first-team opportunities with the Hornets.

Despite making just one substitute appearance during his loan spell with Watford, the 21-year-old’s time at the club was blighted by a serious knee injury and as a result Watford are keen to bring him back next year to see if he can emulate some of the early promise he showed towards the back end of Chelsea’s 2015-16 campaign – including a sumptuous strike against Norwich in a 2-1 away win.

Upon his return to Chelsea Kenedy was unsurprisingly starved of opportunities as Marcos Alonso and Nathan Ake, in spells, excelled at left wing-back. The Brazilian featured twice for the Blues, coming on as a late substitute against Brentford in the FA Cup before making his first start in a dramatic 4-3 victory over former side Watford.

Chelsea, however, are mindful about the number of minutes Kenedy got last season and have therefore asked for assurances over the playing time he will receive were he to move back on loan to Watford next season.
