Chelsea make progress over new Conte deal

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is one step closer to signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge, according to Di Marzio.

The news comes after a successful meeting with Chelsea CEO Marina Granovskaia had positive results.

The Italian is set to have conclusive talks with Roman Abramovich at the end of the week, in which a new deal is expected to be finalised.

The former Juventus and Italy national team boss took the reigns at Stamford Bridge before the beginning of the season, and took the Premier League by storm. He guided his Chelsea team to 30 wins in 38 games, with The Blues being crowned league champions after a 1-0 win away to West Brom.

They also reached the FA Cup final, as Conte set his sights on a league and cup double in his debut season in England, however their opponents on the day Arsenal had other ideas, defeating Conte’s men 2-1 after extra-time at Wembley.

But reflecting on a very successful season for Chelsea, many fans will feel a new deal for Conte is very well deserved, with the hope that talisman Diego Costa will also remain a Chelsea player next season, as the London club look to defend their title in the 2017/18 campaign.
