Swansea City have maintained hope of securing the signature of recently departed Chelsea stalwart John Terry, according to a report in the Mirror.
At 36 years of age though Terry has seen his playing time severely diminish under Antonio Conte following a switch to the 3-4-3 formation, due to his lack of pace and mobility.
As a result, he is seeking a move to pastures new in search of more first-team football, and Swansea are among a host of clubs looking to snap up the former England captain.
Having previously worked with Paul Clements during the pair’s time at Chelsea, Terry knows the Swansea manager well and a deal has therefore been made all the more plausible.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is in the market to strengthen considerably following last year’s dismal relegation scrap.
Jenkins said: “I know Paul has spoken to John and his agent. I don’t know what his preferences are because he has options and will go with what suits his family.
“We are well covered in that area and quite strong but I know there is interest with Paul and he spoke with John and his agent himself.
“When Paul knows a player well it is an obvious one for us. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but we will always try and do that.”
Swansea have also shown an interest in young Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who notched 23 goals in the Championship with relegation fodder Bristol City, although they again face competition from fellow Premier League clubs – this time in the shape of newly promoted sides Newcastle and Brighton.
“Tammy is another player who Paul knows well and I am sure the player is weighing up his options.
“Chelsea have agreed for him to go out on loan and I am led to believe that both Brighton and Newcastle are interested alongside us.
“We would be keen to do something and he will weigh up his options when he returns from England Under-21 duty. We are eagerly awaiting what he wants to do next.”
