Chelsea have reportedly lodged a potentially record-breaking bid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, according to Sky Italia.
Van Dijk is currently continuing his recovery from a long-term injury sustained in January but it appears as though this hasn’t fazed Chelsea in their pursuit to sign him from Saints this summer.
It was reported previously that the Blues would only be willing to offer up to £50m to sign van Dijk, but Sky Italia now claim that they have offered around £60m for the defender.
Any fee above £50m would be a world record sum for a defender.
