Chelsea want to add options to the attacking midfield ranks this summer ahead of a Champions League campaign next season.
It was reported that Antonio Conte had instructed the Chelsea hierarchy to match the asking price Real Madrid had set to sign James Rodriguez this summer.
The Colombian is frustrated with his lack of playing time at the Bernabeu and wishes to leave the club in order to rediscover his best form ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea, along with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Ligue 1 giants PSG, have lodged a bid to sign Rodriguez this summer.
However, the playmakers preferred destination would be Old Trafford, say Spanish source OK Diario.
The former Porto and Monaco star has failed to convince Zinedine Zidane he’s deserving of a bigger role in the side and he’s now prepared to leave, with Madrid asking for €68m (£60m).
OK Diario claim that there’s an agreement in place between United and Rodriguez over financial terms, but United, along with Chelsea and PSG, are unwilling to meet that £60m valuation.
