Anfield was the defender’s preferred destination back in early June, as per the Guardian, but a statement on Liverpool’s official website in early June seemingly ended their interest after the Saints threatened to take action following reports that van Dijk had chosen his suitors.
This one could still go either way, but Chelsea look to have taken the initiative.
