Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, a move which would see the Serbian international reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho, according to reports from ESPN.
Matic, 28, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge and head for Old Trafford once Chelsea have completed the transfer of Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco, a player that Mourinho was keen on bringing to Old Trafford himself, but it looks like Bakayoko has chosen London over Manchester.
Former Chelsea boss Mourinho wants to do all his business before United fly off to America for pre-season, and sources at the Europa League winners believe that the deal could be completed extremely quickly, with the Serb costing them up to £40 million.
Matic returned to Chelsea for a second spell at Stamford Bridge in a £21 million transfer from Benfica in January 2014, and it looks like the Blues may well be making a profit on the holding midfielder.
