Chelsea have failed in their efforts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund this summer and are struggling to strike a deal with Everton for Romelu Lukaku, forcing them to broaden their search for a new striker and possible Diego Costa replacement.
The Blues are believed to have held talks with his Robert Lewandowski, claims that Bayern Munich came out and aggressively denied after reports surfaced that the Poland international was growing increasingly frustrated with life at the Bundesliga giants.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Lewandowski and are eager to sign him this summer, but German source Sport Bild are now reporting that Arsenal are plotting an ambitious move for the Chelsea target.
The Gunners also want a new striker and have failed to persuade Kylian Mbappe to leave Monaco for the Emirates, while a deal for Alexandre Lacazette is taking longer than expected.
Real Madrid have been linked with Lewandowski also after the striker scored 30 Bundesliga goals last season, second in the charts to Aubameyang which was the source of his reported frustrations as he doesn’t believe his teammates or the coaching staff gave him sufficient support to pip the Gabon international to that crown.
It would likely take a monumental bid to prise Lewandowski away from Bayern this summer, but the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all have the financial strength to pull off such a deal.
