Wolves poised to sign Chelsea target Ruben Neves

Chelsea want to add a couple of midfielders to their squad this summer to add depth ahead of a Champions League campaign this summer and have been linked with a number of players.

Porto midfielder Ruben Neves is one of those players and the Blues were the bookies favourites to sign the Portugal international, with both Liverpool and Juventus also interested in securing his signature

Neves is said to be on the verge of completing a move to England but not to a club many would have expected.

Reports in Portugal claim that Neves will be making a move to Championship side Wolves for just €18m, a fee well below his alleged €40m release clause.

Porto are in serious financial trouble with FFP and need to bring in some cash to help balance the books and Neves was a likely candidate to be sold.

Super agent Jorge Mendes has been a strong player in this transfer and given his links with Wolves and ties to Porto, he’s facilitated this transfer which makes sense for all involved.

It seems as if this move is being fast-tracked to completion as Porto are against the clock to get their finances in order meaning Chelsea and Liverpool have seemingly missed the boat on signing Neves this summer.

A move to Wolves isn’t an ambitious move for a player of Neves’ quality and potential, and there’s every chance that this is a temporary stepping stone move just to get Porto out of a bit of bother, meaning both Chelsea and Liverpool may revive their interest in Neves at a later date.
