Chelsea still keen on PSG’s Alphonse Areola

The Daily Star has reported that Chelsea are still after Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola with Valencia and Napoli also interested.

Chelsea have recently signed former Manchester City ‘keeper Willy Cabellero as a backup replacement for Asmir Begovic, who signed for Bournemouth for £10m.

However, current Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois’ future at Stamford Bridge is unclear following links to a move back to Spain for La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Areola is currently second in the pecking order at PSG to Kevin Trapp with Areola being favoured for Champions League games so the Frenchman could move to Chelsea for a shot at regular first team football, which is very important with the 2018 World Cup coming very soon.

The 24-year-old said last month:

My future is very fluid for the moment. I need to have a better season next then the last. It is important to have playing time. I was told at the end of the season that the club is looking for a goalkeeper. For me, it is impossible to become the third choice at PSG.

Alphonse Areola is confident that he will not fall further down the pecking order at PSG but with the French giants looking for another goalkeeper, they could yet sign someone to replace both him and Kevin Trapp.
