Chelsea have officially announced the signing of defender Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma for a fee believed to be around £31 million, which could rise to £36 million.
Chelsea have been in the market for a central defender all summer and despite numerous links to the likes of Jerome Boateng, Leonardo Bonucci, Kostas Manolas, and Virgil van Dijk, it is the German international Rudiger who they have brought to the club.
The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and will wear the number two shirt during his time at the Bridge.
Having starred in Germany’s Confederations Cup victory in Russia, Rudiger is set to take a short break before joining his new teammates for pre-season training ahead of a campaign where Chelsea will look to defend their league title as well as make a serious impression in the Champions League.
