Chelsea include buy-back clause in Chalobah deal

Chelsea confirmed that young midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah had secured a move to Watford last night.

The news of Chalobah’s departure came as no genuine surprise to anyone, but questions were raised over the price of the move. The fee quoted for the England Under-21 midfielder was in the region of £6m, which is considerably cheap for a player of Chalobah’s age and potential.

However, according to the Evening Standard today, the Blues have included a buy-back clause in Watford’s deal to sign him.

This will allow Chelsea to pay a certain amount of money for the youngster if they are keen to bring him back to Stamford Bridge, giving them first refusal on signing him once again.

The 22-year-old had just one year remaining on his deal at Chelsea and this prompted the club to seek a solution for him ahead of next season.

Chalobah could very well be back at Chelsea one day if he fulfils his potential at Watford.
