Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has praised Chelsea’s new signing Alvaro Morata as the Portuguese prepares his side for a challenging season, according to a report by the Independent.
Mourinho said:
I think it was obvious Chelsea would sign a striker, especially after the situation with the manager and Diego (Costa). It was clear that they were going to get a striker, they did it with Alvaro and Alvaro is a very good player for them.
The United boss himself pursued the Spanish forward for several weeks before eventually securing the signature of Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku, who has since already bagged his first goal for the Red Devils during their pre-season campaign.
Mourinho knows exactly what the Spanish international is capable of after working with the forward during his time with Real Madrid.
Chelsea agreed a fee with Real Madrid which could rise up to about £70 million with Morata expected to sign a five-year deal with the London club ahead of a medical.
The striker will fill the hole left by Diego Costa, who is almost certainly leaving Stamford Bridge after being told by Antonio Conte that he is no longer needed at the club.
