Chelsea have announced, via their official website, that Kurt Zouma has signed a six-year contract at the club and that he will spend the 2017/18 season on loan at Stoke City.
The French international came back at the end of last season after suffering a nasty knee injury in February 2016 but with Chelsea having plenty of central defenders, the decision has been made to let him join Stoke, where he should play regular first-team football.
The Blues obviously have very high hopes for Zouma as they’ve given him a six-year contract, so the loan move looks like a case of sending him somewhere where he can play every week,
Speaking to Chelsea’s website about Zouma’s new contract and his loan move to Stoke, Technical director Michael Emenalo said:
It is fantastic Kurt has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea. He has shown his talent since joining us three years ago, and has returned from a serious injury with a fantastic attitude. Now he has the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League and we will be monitoring his progress closely while he is at Stoke.
