Schalke considering Rahman loan

Bundesliga side Schalke are considering a loan move for Chelsea full-back Baba Rahman, who is close to making a full recovery following his anterior cruciate ligament injury which required surgery, according to a report on Goal.

The full-back got injured on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ghana and has held talks with the Blues over his future.

Chelsea are keen to keep him at the club but are open to the suggestion of a loan following his recovery so he can get valuable game time before returning to full match fitness.

The wing-back will have an opportunity to get back to his best while out on loan rather than making substitute appearances for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea have been looking for a full-back since the end of last season and have found it difficult to agree a fee with Juventus for Brazilian wing-back Alex Sandro.

So it is expected that Rahman’s future is most likely to be decided as manager Antonio Conte is happy with his wing-back options. The Stamford Bridge club signed Rahman for £22m in 2015 from German club Augsburg but are yet to see him at his best.

Conte may need to keep Rahman if he does not find a new big name full-back, but the Blues are expected to do so before the transfer window slams shut.

Various Bundesliga clubs are interested but Schalke are in pole position to land Rahman.
