Chelsea have always been looking to add talented young players to their ranks to develop into potential first-team stars and Jann-Fiete Arp is one player the Blues have been tracking.
The Blues have scouted the teenage striker on a number of occasions over the last several months and are keen on signing him this summer, but it appears as if a deal won’t be reached.
Arp himself has spoken out about his future, claiming it doesn’t make sense to join Chelsea at such a young age:
It just doesn’t make any sense to join Chelsea as a 17-year-old.
You have achieved near to nothing, basically have no experience in professional football. The risk is too high. It would have been nonsense to move abroad and neglect everything else.
Football is a day-to-day business and it can be over any day. But nobody can take away the Abitur [German A-levels] from you. On top of that, money must not play a role at my age.
The talented 17-year-old striker scored 28 goals in 25 games for Hamburg’s youth sides last season, before scoring seven times at the European Under-17 Championships earlier this summer.
