Chelsea legend Frank Lampard had given the ‘extremely talented’ Ross Barkley some transfer advice following speculation that the Everton playmaker will join the Premier League champions this summer, according to a report on Football London.
Chelsea’s all time top scorer has called for Barkley to step out of his comfort zone and make the big move to Chelsea to develop his career to the next level, just as he did himself when he left West Ham for Stamford Bridge.
The new BT Sport pundit also claims that Barkley can be just as successful following a move which takes his career to the level that was expected of him since a very young age.
Lampard said in an interview with Football.London:
Looking at it from the outside, he’s 23 now and he’s always had pockets of games where he’s done well and we talk about him. His England career has done a bit of that as well because he’s never done that throughout a season, so maybe a change would be good for him. At some stage sometimes, I did it as a young lad at West Ham, you have to try and go out of your comfort zone and try something else.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur the most heavily linked clubs.
Everton have not yet received an official offer from either club, but their interest in Barkley is intensifying as the transfer window comes to a close.
Lampard added:
I’ve trained and played with him for England, as well as playing against him in the league, and he’s unbelievably talented. While it does look like he’s going to leave now, he does need to go to a club where he can fulfill that talent.
