Diego Costa is all but set to depart Chelsea, but will need to wait until January if he is to secure his preferred switch back to Atletico Madrid.
The Brazilian-born striker has been exiled from Antonio Conte’s plans and it’s claimed today by the Independent that Diego Simeone is prepared to splash around £40m to bring the enigmatic forward back to La Liga.
The report states that Atletico have already drawn up a detailed plan to keep Costa in shape, with a January move in mind. Atletico are only able to sanction incoming transfers when the winter window opens, as they obey their ongoing transfer embargo.
Costa himself has openly admitted to being desperate to return to Spain to reunite with Simeone, with his Chelsea future having already been ruled out.
AC Milan have been linked with a move for Costa and would be able to provide him with immediate first-team football. However, he has his heart set on Atletico, and they are seemingly willing to spend big on his return.
