Chelsea failed with summer bid for Grzegorz Krychowiak

Antonio Conte is frustrated by his side’s lack of new recruits this summer, but one he could’ve had slipped away, at least for now, due to negligent activity.

French news outlet L’Equipe have reported that last month, Chelsea were pushing ahead with a move to sign PSG midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak as they were pursuing midfield reinforcements with Nemanja Matic set to leave.

The Poland international joined PSG in a £32m deal last summer but made just 11 Ligue 1 appearances in his debut season and has been touted for a summer exit.

Chelsea were prepared to make a big offer to sign the midfielder, but PSG directors were embroiled in the Neymar transfer saga that they didn’t respond to Chelsea’s initial enquiries for the 27-year-old.

The Blues went ahead with a £40m deal for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, but are understood to still be in the market for a midfielder.

PSG are looking to offload Krychowiak as they attempt to balance the books following their £199m capture of Neymar from Barcelona, and the Blues may revive their interest, but it remains to be seen if they will.
