Everton midfielder Ross Barkely has taken to Twitter to explain why he changed his mind about a move to Chelsea.
There had been reports which suggested that the England midfielder had taken a medical with the Premier League champions but he denied that was the case.
Twitter: Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point. (@RBarkley20)
Twitter: I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit (@RBarkley20)
Chelsea did some good business in the window but will be frustrated to have missed out on Barkely, as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fernando Llorente.
Antonio Conte’s squad is certainly capable of competing on multiple fronts but missing out on Barkley late on will have been a blow for the Italian.
