Alderweireld could leave Tottenham next summer

The agent of Toby Alderweireld has said that his client could leave Tottenham next summer, with Chelsea having been credited with interest.

There have been links to Alderweireld, with the Evening Standard reporting last month that Chelsea were considering a move.

As quoted by The Mirror, Stijn Francis, his agent, said this:

When you look at Toby’s statistics, they are impressive. Either he deserves an appropriate contract, or else he should be given a transfer.

Seven or eight big European clubs are interested in signing him. There are not many central defenders around who can play like he can.

But these clubs will have to negotiate with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy.

Alderweireld is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and in Europe, and has forged a fierce reputation at Tottenham over the past few seasons.

Tottenham have had the best defensive record in the Premier League for two seasons in-a-row, with Alderweireld being a big part of that.

His future at Spurs is now in doubt, though, over wage concerns. Alderweireld wants a wage increase to match top-scorer Harry Kane, and could leave next summer if his demands are not met.

Alderweireld could leave Tottenham for £25m next summer if the club activate the extension in his contract.
