The summer transfer window was one that consisted of big transfers, surprise moves and astronomical fees.
None of these aspects were typified more by Neymar’s shock move to PSG. The Brazilian international joined the French giants from Barcelona for a fee claimed to be worth €222 million; a sum which smashed the record for the world’s most expensive ever transfer.
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is a player who is perennially linked with a big-money move away from the club, and he has been the latest to have his say on the increasingly inflating market.
As quoted by Di Marzio, Hazard joked about his own valuation in comparison to Neymar’s.
They paid 222 million for Neymar? Then I am worth 1 billion.
The Belgian international was, of course, speaking with his tongue in cheek, and further reaffirmed that his comments were merely humourous.
I said that as a joke, I don’t know how much I am worth. I have to concentrate on my work, on my training and my matches for Chelsea. Every year there are rumors about me changing shirts, but then the facts are what count.
Hazard played in the international break for Belgium but is yet to feature for Chelsea this season as he steps up his recovery from his injury.
