Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has given an update on the condition of his squad ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League opener against Qarabag FK.
The Blues welcome the Azerbaijani outfit to Stamford Bridge as they look to get their European campaign off to a flying start, as Atletico Madrid take on Roma in the other fixture in Group C.
Conte, as quoted by the Evening Standard, claimed that Danny Drinkwater is doubtful ahead of the clash. The England midfielder is yet to make his debut for the Blues.
Only one news and yesterday Danny Drinkwater had a muscular problem in his calf. We’re waiting to check the problem. Only this.
The Italian coach also confirmed that Eden Hazard is set to be included in the squad, and could play when Qarabag visit.
Hazard made his first appearance of the season for Chelsea at the weekend as they defeated Leicester City 2-1, and although he could be set to feature in their Champions League clash, Conte is not looking to risk his fitness.
Eden Hazard is in the group, is in the squad, and he is working very well to find the best physical condition. He needs a bit of time to continue to improve and to avoid to take stupid risks with him. But now he’s available and he will come on the bench.
Reports have also suggested that Conte may be keen to rest some key players, such as Hazard and Alvaro Morata, with a busy schedule ahead of him.
Eden last season played an amazing season. He’s a top player and we’re looking forward to have him in our team, in our squad.
I think Eden is an important player for us, but for sure in this period we played without him and we were forced to play without him because of injury. We tried to win every game.
