Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted that his side face a mammoth task if they are to retain the Premier League title.
The Blues boss, as quoted by Goal, has admitted that it will be a difficult ask of them to win back-to-back Premier League titles, but is not yet losing faith despite his side losing ground on the two Manchester clubs.
I see the commitment every day, but for sure to defend the title is very difficult. It is very difficult for every team in this league. To defend – it is very difficult to win two titles in a row.
Chelsea suffered a crushing blow in their hopes of finishing top of the league on Saturday evening, as Manchester City came away from Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 win. This was thanks to a long-range effort from Kevin De Bruyne, an ex-Chelsea player.
I think last season we did a really great job, because we won the league against a really strong team, because Man City last season also was a fantastic team.
And now after I think a great transfer market, they have improved a lot. It’s not simple to play this league.
The defeat has left the Blues sat in 4th place on the Premier League table, narrowly trailing Tottenham Hotspur in 3rd. However, occupying the two spots at the top are Manchester City and Manchester United, with the former leading the Red Devils based on goal difference.
We have to try to do our best in every game with great ambition, because we must always have the right ambition. But at the same time sometimes you have to compliment your opponent. You must be honest and accept the result.
Chelsea are currently six points adrift of the two Manchester clubs.
