Willian explains how he rejected Liverpool and Tottenham for Chelsea

Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Willian has admitted how he snubbed interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in order to head to Stamford Bridge back in 2013, he told FourFourTwo in an exclusive interview.

The Brazilian attacker joined the Blues from Anzhi Makhachkala for a fee in the region of £30 million four years ago, and has spoken out about how he was a wanted man when he touched down in London.

Willian has admitted that his agent was talking to representatives from Tottenham and Liverpool, but when he heard of Chelsea’s interest, the playmaker decision to join the Blues was solely his.

He said:

The situation was… complicated. Well, not complicated actually. It was more… unusual.

When I came to London, there were other clubs interested in my football: Liverpool, Tottenham as well as Chelsea. I was just waiting for the negotiations to be completed.

My agent was talking to the clubs. I was just waiting for the decision. In the end, I ended up going to Chelsea. When I understood they were really keen to sign me, I said my decision was made. I wanted to go to Chelsea.

Willian, now 29, has proven to be a true fans favourite at Stamford Bridge, enjoying success along the way. The Brazilian has won two Premier League titles and a League Cup during his time with Chelsea, and was also named as the Blues’ player of the season during the 2015/16 campaign.
