have fallen behind Italian giants Juventus and Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona in the race for 16-year-old Uruguayan striker Gustavo Viera, according to a report on Bleacher Report.
The Blues have been monitoring the highly-rated youngster for some time but Juventus and Barcelona have also registered their interest in the player.
Viera currently plays for Liverpool Montevideo in the Uruguayan Primera División and has been attracting attention from Europe’s biggest clubs for the past few years.
Gonzalo Mattos, the sporting director at his Uruguayan club, said:
I think he could go [to Europe] in a short while. Of course, he can play in Premier League. Fundamentally for two reasons, one because of his great ability to play at the same level against top players or against his own age, his scoring ability, another because he has top-level physical levels, he has a speed and physical level that others simply do not have.
The 16-year-old striker has been likened to Luis Suarez, due to his style of play and incredible finishing ability.
Chelsea have been positive about securing his signature due to the player openly admitting that he is a huge fan of the club.
However, Juventus are thought to be leading the race at this moment in time.
