Premier League side Chelsea are set to miss out on Santos midfielder Lucas Lima as Italian Serie A side AC Milan are poised to sign him on a free transfer in January, according to a report on Football Italia.
The Brazilian international midfielder’s contract with Santos expires on 31st December 2017 and will be allowed to enter talks with any club he desires after that date.
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on his situation and are interested in making a move but face stiff competition from AC Milan, whose spending spree of nearly £200m has only helped them reach tenth place in the league table.
The 27-year-old is not thinking about his next destination at the moment and is focusing on Santos, but will begin to enter negotiations with interested clubs in November, where there is expected to be numerous clubs vying for his signature.
Interestingly, Lima has never played outside of Brazil, as his previous clubs are Internacional and Sport Recife. There are also reports that Chinese club Hebei China Fortune are weighing up a move for Lima.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his squad after making a nervous start to the new campaign.
