Clement insists Abraham will stay at Swansea for the season

Swansea City boss Paul Clement has insisted that Tammy Abraham will not be recalled from his loan by Chelsea.

Abraham has been a subject of much discussion in recent weeks, with several calls for the England Under-21 international to be recalled by the Blues.

The youngster has been in good form for the Swans this season and is currently their top scorer. Abraham enjoyed a positive loan spell with Bristol City last term and is currently gaining some valuable first-team experience in the Premier League with Swansea.

Clement, as quoted by the Daily Mail, insisted that Abraham is well on course to meet the demands of his loan deal, ensuring that he will not be recalled midway through the season.

There is a stipulation in place that if he does not meet a certain amount of games, a proportion of games by the halfway stage, he can be recalled.

That is a normal thing to have on a season-long loan in place to protect the player, to make sure he’s getting the right amount of game time. But if we were bringing in a player of his ability then I felt he was coming here to play.

As we stand there is no reason to think he would not meet that criteria. He’s well on course for that and he’ll be here for the year. The only way they can recall him is if he is sat on the bench for the remaining games. But the way he’s playing I can’t see that happening.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is on the lookout for a new striker, according to reports, with his patience running out with Michy Batshuayi in Alvaro Morata’s recent absence.

The Spaniard is back in contention for the Blues, however, and Conte will hope that his side can get back to winning ways in the near future.
