Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso is hopeful of earning a place in Spain’s squad for the World Cup, however, his main focus at this moment in time is solely on winning at Stamford Bridge.
Talking to Spanish newspaper Marca, Alonso was asked whether or not he sees himself in the national team over the next 12 months.
Yes, I think I can contribute a lot to the selection. Right now, I’m concerned about the matches with Chelsea and it’s not a subject that has to matter much to me, because in the end it’s not a decision of mine. I can only show my level on the pitch that’s what I try. In my hand is winning the maximum possible matches with Chelsea, do well and wait. Ticket for Russia? First win with Chelsea.

Alonso, 26, was a surprise signing for the Blues from Fiorentina last summer, after previous spells in the Premier League with the likes of Bolton and Sunderland where his performances were not up to the highest levels.
However, the Spaniard has been impressing in every game since joining Chelsea, justifying his £24 million transfer fee, and may well be included in the squad for the World Cup in Russia next year, despite the fact he’s yet to make a senior appearance for his country.
