Dani Alves reveals how he agreed to Chelsea transfer

In the summer, Chelsea made it a priority to add another fullback to the squad and after continued disappointment throughout the summer, they settled for a deadline day swoop for Torino’s Davide Zappacosta.

Antonio Conte could’ve not had a problem to deal with in the summer if several years ago, the Blues completed a sensational swoop for Brazil international Dani Alves.

The 34-year-old right-back rose to prominence in 2008 when he left Sevilla for Barcelona where he won 23 major honours including six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies in an eight-year spell at the Nou Camp.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Alves admits he could’ve left Barcelona earlier in his career revealing he pretty much had an agreement to join Chelsea.

I pretty much had an agreement with Liverpool, but for whatever reason it didn’t happen at the last moment and I really don’t know why, as I wasn’t the one conducting the negotiations. I had other people representing me back then.

Something similar happened later in my career with Chelsea and Real Madrid. Of course, it all worked out happily for the Cules [Barcelona supporters] in the end, and also for me as I was able to write an amazing story at the Camp Nou instead.

Alves has been named to the FIFPro World XI seven times in the last nine years and has established himself as one of, if not the best right-back of his generation. He would’ve been some addition to the Blues.
