Inter Milan plotting January bid for Christensen

Chelsea made the decision to keep Andreas Christensen at the club in the summer despite interest from elsewhere in the centre-back because they believed he was ready to make the step up.

The 21-year-old had impressed in a two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach over the last two seasons but hasn’t really established himself as a regular in Antonio Conte’s starting XI, making just three Premier League starts this season as a result of suspensions to his teammates.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are ready to make a January swoop for the Denmark international with sporting director Piero Ausilio a long-term admirer of the player.

Christensen has been praised for his ball-playing ability and composure when in possession but it’s fair to say he still has some developing to do before being considered one of the best centre-backs around.

He’s one of very few success stories from Chelsea’s loan system and the Blues will want to avoid the mistakes they made with Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku when they allowed the Belgian pair to leave Stamford Bridge too soon. Conte is expected to block any approach for Christensen like he did in the summer.
