Chelsea defender David Luiz has called on his teammates to show a strong mentality when they come up against Manchester United on Sunday.
Speaking to the Evening Standard ahead of the blockbuster clash, Luiz admitted that Chelsea’s recent form has not been acceptable, and spoke of his desire to help the team change its fortunes.
Every week is a big week for Chelsea, when you play for big clubs you need to win all your games. And you need to learn when you lose. You must improve to do better. We have a big game against a big team. It’ll be a tough game, we need to be ready.
The Blues head into the game off the back of a crushing defeat in the Champions League. Antonio Conte’s side were cast aside 3-0 by Roma in what was nothing short of an embarrassing encounter.
Chelsea are currently in a difficult situation in the Premier League as well. They sit nine points away from Manchester City at the top of the table in fourth place.
This only heightens the need to achieve a positive result against United on Sunday, and Luiz appears to be up for the fight.
We need to understand why you are here – you are here because you play for a big club, big players need to have a great mentality. These things happen sometimes, and we must be strong.
A win for Chelsea could take them above Tottenham and into third place, just one point adrift of the weekend’s counterparts United.
