Mourinho reveals Matic transfer saga

Former Blues boss José Mourinho has revealed how he managed to capture Nemanja Matic from his former side.

Mourinho and Matic will return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the red of Manchester United, looking to get one over their former employers.

Other than the league cup, the Serbian international has played every competitive minute for the Red Devils this season.

He was sold to Manchester United by Chelsea for £40m and is showing that that price was an absolute bargain.

Many people such as Gary Neville and Ray Wilkins have come forward and said that it is the worst business Chelsea could’ve done.

Mourinho has said to Sky Sports that it was Matic’s agent, who he knows well from his Chelsea days, who rang him and offered him the 29-year-old (via Daily Star):

When he (the agent) told me: ‘You can have him if you want’, of course I wanted.

The transfer was reportedly a mix of the agent along with Matic trying to force the move by not training with Chelsea.

Antonio Conte responded by bringing in Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater for midfielders, but this has not worked as well as hoped, and certainly not as well as Matic at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager certainly made the right choice by bringing him to Manchester, where he has settled in quickly and already formed a great partnership with the currently injured Paul Pogba.

With injuries such as Pogba and Marouane Fellaini in United’s midfield, Matic is a guaranteed starter for the clash at Stamford Bridge.

He has come out and publicly said that he does not care if Chelsea fans boo him, as he is focused and happy to be a Manchester United player.
