Chelsea leading the race to land Riyad Mahrez

Chelsea could use a fresh attacker or two when the January transfer window opens up and Calciomercato claim that the Blues are leading the race to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.

The Algerian winger handed in a transfer request at the King Power Stadium in the summer in order to force through a move but despite offers from Roma and interest from the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, he stayed put.

Mahrez was a key contributor to Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 campaign where he was named PFA Player of the Year but last season he underperformed by his own lofty standards.

The 26-year-old has rediscovered the form that lit up the Premier League two years ago with four goals and five assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season and Chelsea would like to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Roma remain interested in the winger but Chelsea are in pole position to land him, should they agree a fee with the Foxes.
