Antonio Conte has joked that Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata must buy teammate Cesar Azpilicueta dinner, after the Spaniard’s combined for the sixth time this season, Goal reports.
Azpilicueta crossed for Morata to head home against Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day, as Conte’s men ran out convincing 2-0 winners, continuing their unbeaten run to five games.
The defender has now had a hand in 60% of the striker’s goals this season, and Conte believes their chemistry is proving extremely important for the club this season.
When asked about the pair, Conte was happy to joke about Morata buying his fellow Spaniard dinner after the defender’s assists.
There is this great link between him and Alvaro. This wasn’t the first time. I hope it continues in this way because we need his assists and Morata to score. Morata has to pay not one dinner but more dinners to Azpi. And, if they invite me, I want to go.
Chelsea’s victory over the Seagulls on Tuesday kept them third in the Premier League table, and closed the gap to Manchester United to just one point after their slip up at home to Burnley but remain 13 behind leaders Manchester City.
