Chelsea among clubs eying Lorenzo Pellegrini
Despite the summer acquisitions of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco and Danny Drinkwater from Leicester, Chelsea are still keen to bolster their midfield in January and have already signed Ross Barkley from Everton for £15m, but their spending won’t stop there.
According to the Mirror, the Blues are among a trio of Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City that are looking to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma this month.
Pellegrini came through the Roma youth ranks but was sold to Sassuolo in July 2015 for just £1.1m so he can play some regular football, but Roma had every intention of potentially buying him back when they inserted a £9m clause to do so, which the exercised in July 2017 for just £9m.
Capped once by Italy, the 21-year-old has scored two goals and supplied three assists in 21 appearances so far this season and is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in Serie A today.
With his contract featuring a relatively small release clause of just £21m, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are all considering swooping for the midfielder to bolster their squads for the second half of the season.
