Atletico Madrid plotting bid to re-sign Thibaut Courtois

Thibaut Courtois’ future at Chelsea has been questioned in recent weeks after the goalkeeper revealed his desire to return to Madrid one day and Champions League holders Real Madrid have been the side most frequently linked with a move.

However, their city rivals Atletico are ready to enter the race to sign Courtois in the summer, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon.

With his contract expiring at the end of next season, there has always been a fear that the Belgian could look to force his way out of Chelsea with Real Madrid interested, but Atletico entering the fray gives him another option.

After being signed by Chelsea in 2011 from Genk, Courtois was immediately sent on a three-year loan spell to Atletico Madrid  where he enjoyed great success, winning the Europa League in 2011/12, the UEFA Super Cup later that year and La Liga in 2013/14.

Jan Oblak is the current No.1 goalkeeper at Atletico but he has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United – while PSG are also keen – and Chelsea’s Courtois seems to be their preferred replacement.
