According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Blues managerial target Luis Enrique’s former No. 2, Juan Carlos Unzue, has rejected a move to work as Enrique assistant at Chelsea.
Unzue is currently the Celta Vigo manager, with the same backroom staff which Enrique had at Barcelona, but as Chelsea look for a new manager, Unzue looks to have scuppered their chances for the former Barcelona boss.
Celta are currently sitting in ninth in La Liga, and Unzue wants to stay there to help his side push on for European qualification at the end of this season.
Enrique’s former backroom staff who are working with Unzue at Celta are very keen on joining Enrique at Chelsea, as well as Enrique, but Unzue would like to push on in his career as a manager, not an assistant.
After taking a year out of the game following his resignation at Barcelona last summer, Enrique is eager to step back into the dugout next season and Chelsea have Enrique on their shortlist of potential Conte replacements.
