Chelsea wanted to recruit another defensive midfielder last summer after sanctioning the £40m sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United but so far, their replacement has failed to live up to expectations.
Antonio Conte signed Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £35m but the France international hasn’t quite gotten to grips with English football just yet and has been in and out of the Blues side throughout the campaign.
Eager to bring a player in who can adequately partner N’Golo Kante in central midfield, Chelsea are believed to have presented an offer to Real Madrid for the transfer of Brazilian midfiekd enforcer Casemiro, according to Spanish source Don Balon.
The 25-year-old is an integral part of Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid side and was key to their Champions League triumph over Juventus last season.
Madrid believe that Casemiro is a valuable asset of theirs, illustrated by their placing of a £176m release clause in his contract, a few Chelsea are unlikely to match.
