Since his arrival at Chelsea in the summer of 2016, Marcos Alonso’s performances see him rank among the best left-backs in the Premier League, and some are taking notice.
According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Barcelona star Lionel Messi has reportedly informed the club that they must sign Alonso from Chelsea once the summer transfer window opens.
Barcelona recently knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage, but Alonso was particularly impressive in the 3-0 second-leg defeat at the Camp Nou.

The former Real Madrid academy graduate arrived at Chelsea for £23m from Fiorentina but he will be valued well in excess of that figure after two excellent seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Earlier in the season, Barcelona were being linked with a move for Alonso as a potential replacement for long-term left-back Jordi Alba, and it appears as if their interest in the player is genuine.
However, Barcelona may face competition from Real Madrid for the uncapped defender as his former club consider the left-back as a ‘dream’ summer signing.
