Conte plays down Willian injury fears

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has played down suggestions that in-form winger Willian had suffered a knock against Leicester.

The Brazilian was brought off in the latter stages of the game and there had been some concerns that the player was injured.

The news would have been an untimely blow for the Blues. Willian has been one of the star performers in recent weeks, scoring on all fronts.

Football London report that Conte put the decision to substitute the player down to fatigue.

Willian was very tired, very tired, I think Willy played a fantastic game with the ball, without the ball. He is in a fantastic physical condition and I’m very pleased with his commitment and his contribution. We decided to take this decision because he was very, very tired.

With games in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in quick succession over the course of the last month, games have been coming thick and fast for the Blues.

The 29-year-old has scored five goals in his last seven appearances in all competitions.

Conte will be keen to ensure that the Brazilian can maintain some of his better form in the final stages of the season with Chelsea still competing for the FA Cup and a place in the top four.
