Alonso to miss next three games due to suspension

Marcos Alonso is set to miss Chelsea’s next three games due to being suspended by the FA for his stamp on Southampton’s Shane Long.

The defender has been charged with committing an act of violent conduct against the Southampton striker, and has been given a three game suspension by the FA.

In a statement, the FA said:

Alonso denied the charge and further submitted that if found proven the suspension would be excessive, however, this was rejected following Wednesday’s hearing.

Alonson will no miss Chelsea’s next three games against Burnley, Southampton in the FA Cup Semi Final and Swansea City.

The incident took place in the 43rd minute of the game, but was not seen by the match officials. Alonso would continue playing in the game, helping Chelsea come back from being 2-0 down to winning 3-2. Olivier Giroud was instrumental in the win, netting twice with Eden Hazard scoring the other goal of the game.
