Inter Milan reportedly want to tie Mauro Icardi down to a new and improved contract with a more expensive release clause, amid interest from clubs such as Chelsea.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the Argentina international in recent months and it seems Inter are desperate to fend off this interest from potential suitors.
It was claimed earlier this week that Inter could be willing to negotiate Icardi’s sale if their asking price is met. However, fresh reports indicate that this may not be the case as they bid to extend his stay at San Siro.
Icardi is a well-liked figure in Italy and has been a talisman for Inter this season. It is because of his importance that they are set to offer him a lucrative new offer which includes a significantly increased release clause.
As per reports from Italy, via talkSPORT, the current buyout clause in Icardi’s deal stands at £96.5 million. However, it seems Inter are intent on upping this just over £140 million with a new deal for their star man.
Icardi has scored the second most goals in Serie A this season, hitting the net on an impressive total of 27 times in the league.
