Alvaro Morata has been heavily linked with a move back to Juventus after a disastrous first season with Chelsea, but manager Antonio Conte has hinted the Spaniard isn’t going anywhere.
Making 39 appearances in all competitions this year, Morata has been limited to just 13 goals after his £60 million summer move from Real Madrid – but reports have been suggesting the target-man was prepared to take a pay-cut to go back to Italy and join the ‘Old Lady’.
Conte told reporters:
Morata is Chelsea’s player, he must be ready to play tomorrow and next season. I think the situation is very clear,
I don’t like to comment on speculation. Now it is right for everyone to be focused on the present and finish this season in the best possible way.
January signing Olivier Giroud has staked his claim on the starting XI in recent weeks, and doesn’t look set to relinquish the position any time soon.
Conte acknowledged that it had been a challenging year for his front-man:
I think this season was a difficult season, but not only for Morata. Your [the press] focus is only Morata, but I would like it if your focus was for the whole team. Not only one player.
