Marcos Alonso feels referee has let Chelsea down

Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso has suggested that referee Lee Mason is to blame for the club losing ground in the race for Champions League qualification, according to football.london.

Antonio Conte’s chances of getting his Chelsea team into the top four took a serious blow as they were held by Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night, meaning they now sit two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool with just one game remaining.

Speaking after the game, Spanish full-back Alonso said:

We’re very disappointed. We were so unlucky. They played a bad game, trying to waste time from the first minute and I think the referee stopped it very late.

The West London side now make the trip to the North East, knowing they must beat Newcastle to have any chance of making the top four.

Liverpool come up against Brighton and the Stamford Bridge faithful will be hoping Chris Hughton’s men can do them a massive favour.

matchday.
