Emerson named in Mancini’s first Italy squad

Chelsea defender Emerson has been named in Roberto Mancini’s first Italy squad.

After missing out on the World Cup, Italy have friendlies scheduled against Saudi Arabia, France and the Netherlands.

Emerson is yet to make an appearance for the Italian national squad after switching his international alliance from Brazil.

Former Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura was keen on bringing Emerson into the fold but injuries meant he was unable to make a mark on the squad.

Emerson has had a difficult adjustment period after joining Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The former Roma defender has struggled to oust Marcos Alonso at the left wing-back slot.

Emerson will be hoping to enjoy a strong pre-season at Chelsea this summer in a bid to nail down a first-team position next season.
