Spurs hopeful of beating Chelsea to Martial

Tottenham are hoping to utilise Manchester United’s interest in Toby Alderweireld to beat Chelsea to the signature of Anthony Martial this summer.

The Telegraph reports that Spurs are confident they can sign the player from Manchester United, despite interest from London rivals Chelsea.

The Frenchman is expected to leave Old Trafford in the search of regular game time after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

Spurs can offer Champions League football and hope a deal can be struck if United want to sign Alderweireld.

While a direct swap deal is not thought to be on the cards, a deal is thought to be more likely between the two clubs.

Even without Champions League football, Chelsea could pay Martial more than their rivals, but may still face a battle to sign him.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the French forward in a bid to shake-up the club’s attacking options.

The club’s hierarchy see the potential that the United forward has and would consider a move should he become available this summer.
