Chelsea are nearing an agreement with Maurizio Sarri as they close in on their next managerial appointment, according to reports in Italy.
The Blues are understood to have identified the former Napoli manager as their number one target to replace Antonio Conte who, despite being expected to leave Stamford Bridge, is yet to be dismissed as things stand.
Sarri led Napoli to an impressive season in Serie A as he helped them amass a staggering total of 91 points. However, Juventus ended up pipping them to the title in the final stages of the campaign.
Napoli relieved Sarri of his duties as the club’s first-team manager this week as they appointed Carlo Ancelotti. This means that Chelsea have an ideal opportunity to pounce, with Sarri set to be available as of June.
According to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, the Blues are indeed edging ever closer to reaching an agreement with Sarri over the managerial role at Stamford Bridge.
It’s stated in the report that the terms currently on the table are for Sarri to pen a two-year deal with Chelsea as they bid to push their way back into the Champions League next season.
La Repubblica also state that Sarri will earn €6m per year if he pens the new contract at Chelsea, which seems somewhat likely given these emerging reports.
