Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on Chelsea’s top managerial target Maurizio Sarri, as per a report from the Evening Standard.
Guardiola came head to head with Sarri in the Champions League group stages in the recently-concluded season as City encountered Napoli.
Sarri was relieved of his duties at Napoli earlier this month as the club jumped at the opportunity to appoint Ancelotti, with Chelsea’s interest in the 59-year-old intensifying.
It looks as though a deal for Chelsea to appoint Sarri is on the cards, with Antonio Conte’s future at Stamford Bridge unlikely.
Guardiola spoke to French news outlet RMC Sport last week and hailed Sarri as one of the best managers around, hailing his style of play and achievements with Napoli in recent years.
He’s one of the absolute best. We judge people on what they’ve won, but the football played by Napoli this season has been out of this world. He did very well, seeing Napoli play is a spectacle. If he comes to the Premier League it’d be a pleasure to face him.
Sarri’s reputation was only enhanced last season as he helped Napoli accumulate an outstanding total of 91 points. The team did, however, fall short to Juventus and therefore missed out on a long-awaited Serie A title.
